Supported operating systems and browsers

a.  ChemOrbis is compatible with Internet Explorer 5.5 and higher versions of IE operating on Windows XP and Vista. ChemOrbis also supports Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (or higher) and Opera 7 (or higher).

Internet Explorer settings necessary for full functionality

To obtain full functionality of the ChemOrbis site, you should have javascript support on your browser. Internet Explorer and Opera comes with Javascript support as they are installed on the system. Javascript may become disabled for various reasons. There are two cases that are most frequently seen and the solutions are as follows:

a.  When the Internet Explorer securiy level is set on High

Javascript support will be disabled if the Security level of your Internet Explorer is set on High under the Tools menu. (See picture 1a and 1b) To overcome this problem, the Chemorbis site has to be added under the Trusted Sites (See picture 2).

To do this;

1) Choose the Trusted Sites icon
2) Click Sites
3) Unclick the "Require server vertification (https:) for all sites in this zone" option
4) Type in http://www.chemorbis.com on the upper area and click the Add button
5) On the same area type in https://www.chemorbis.com and click the Add button
6) Click the OK button two times and complete the settings

Picture 1a: High Security setting removes the Javascript support.

Picture 1b: Medium level security setting allows Javascript support.

Picture 2: If you choose High level security, you must add Chemorbis to the Trusted Sites list for Javascript support.

b.  Using Firewall software blocks Javascripts:

It's been detected that some of the firewall software block Javascripts. If you are using an antivirus program and you are faced with slow download rates and/or problems such as viewing pages that don't load fully, you might have to shut down the antivirus program while surfing the Chemorbis site.

For Norton Personal Firewall you can do this by right clicking on the blue-greenish icon on the lower right side of your desktop near the clock display. Left click the "Disable" item on the menu that comes up (See Picture 3) If you get a notification message window after clickling the "Disable" option, click "Yes".

Picture 3: Disabling Norton Firewall.

When you disable your Firewall software, you might put your computer at risk. For this reason, do not visit sites that you don't trust until you enable your firewall software. After you complete your visit to the ChemOrbis site, activate your firewall software by clicking the "Enable" button on the Firewall icon as mentioned above.

For more information you might have to contact your antivirus software producer or distributor. If you conitnue to have problems, please send contact ChemOrbis Customer Services ChemOrbis continues to work on the compatibality of the site and the various Firewall software. If you inform Chemorbis Customer Services whether you have this problem or not, you can learn about the latest updates.

c.  SSL settings

Some sections on the ChemOrbis site can only be viewed with SSL data security. When SSL security is active, the URL in the address bar of your explorer starts with https and its icon is displayed on the lower right side of the status bar.

If your browser's SSL setting is not properly set, you cannot view these pages properly. SSL settings for the Internet Explorer should be as follows:

1) On your Internet Explorer go to Tools and click Internet options. Go to the Advanced section. 2) Under the Advanced section, find the Security heading and make sure that "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" options are checked. (See Picture 4)
