Different pricing policies emerge in Europe’s PS, ABS markets in Dec by Adriana Camacho
After the stable to slightly firmer trend seen in November, styrenics markets are seeing small up and down variations in December. Regional producers, indeed, announced divergent pricing policies after the styrene contract was agreed €7/ton lower following the €49/ton decline in benzene contracts. As for ABS, the butadiene contract settled €50/ton down, while the ACN settlement indicated a tiny increase, leading to a small drop in raw materials... 10-12-2024

PLAST EURASIA 2024: Shrinking margins emerge as a key topic among polymer players by Merve Madakbaşı
Global plastics players have gathered in Istanbul since December 4 for the 33rd Plast Eurasia Fair. Shrinking margins for both converters and polymer producers emerged as a key topic of discussion during the event, with most participants agreeing that prices might see a recovery in January. Nonetheless, economic hurdles are expected to persist for a while longer, dampening end-consumer spending. Petrochemical companies are likely to maintain supply management strategies through 2025. The fair will conclude on December 7... 06-12-2024

Lower parity, rising freight rates repel European polymer buyers from imports by Manolya Tufan
While the year-end lethargy is in full swing, most polymer markets in Europe are poised for modest adjustments in the last month of the year. With lower monomer settlements and ongoing destocking activities, pricing strategies remain under downward pressure... 05-12-2024

Weaker costs pull Asian PS, ABS markets down to 7-9-month lows by Elif Sevde Yalçın and Thi Huong Nguyen
Styrenics markets across Asia continued to experience a stable to slightly lower trend last week given the persistent slump in upstream values. Although limited year-end purchasing activity helped cap discounts, the overall demand remained weak, causing an imbalanced supply-demand situation... 19-11-2024

Stats: Türkiye’s Q3 polymer imports down 9.5% year over year by Merve Madakbaşı
ChemOrbis Stats Wizard data revealed that the total polymer imports of Türkiye edged up by nearly 1.5% in Q3 from the prior quarter and stood at 1,573,000 tons. Nonetheless, the volume dropped by 9.5% from Q3 2023 when imports surpassed 1.7 million tons. In July-September, Saudi Arabia (398,000 tons), the USA (148,000 tons), South Korea (146,000 tons), Egypt (96,000 tons) and Russia (90,000 tons) were the top five suppliers... 12-11-2024
ABS; Acrylonitrile (ACN) is a polymer formed by the combination of butadiene and styrene feedstocks. Since it is a durable plastic; ABS is frequently used in automotive, electrical-electronics and household appliances.
There are natural, black and white types of ABS, which are then divided in injection and extrusion applications. The usage of natural type is much more common.
While South Korea and Taiwan are the top ABS exporters in the world market, China maintains its position as the biggest buyer by accounting for more than 40% of world’s imports alone.
ChemOrbis ABS prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to ABS facilities.
