SEA PE markets sink further on weak demand; US LLDPE hits $800 CIF Vietnam by Thi Huong Nguyen and Merve Sezgün
Southeast Asia’s PE markets started October on a bearish note, with prices drifting further down amid fragile demand and persistent oversupply. Market sentiment remained weak, with buyers sticking to minimal replenishment despite already multi-year low levels. Competitive offers from US and Middle Eastern suppliers continued to weigh on the region, pulling both LDPE and LLDPE film down, while HDPE showed only selective firmness in limited markets... 08-10-2025
India’s PP, PE markets slide deeper as October opens with fresh cuts by Merve Sezgün
India’s polyolefins markets entered October on a distinctly bearish footing, with both PP and PE seeing new price cuts in import and domestic markets. Oversupply, monsoon-related slowdowns, and subdued downstream demand weighed heavily on sentiment. Players said the removal of price protection by the country’s major producer underscored the defensive tone, leaving buyers cautious and restricting activity to hand-to-mouth purchases... 06-10-2025
Mid-Eastern suppliers cut PP, PE prices in SEA on low demand, high competition by Thi Huong Nguyen
As bearish sentiment prevailed in Southeast Asia’s PP and PE markets amid persistent demand weakness and intensifying competition, most Middle Eastern suppliers opted to close September on a softer note, trimming offers by $10-20/ton. The reductions marked the second consecutive week of declines in PE, while PP extended its prolonged downtrend... 30-09-2025
Türkiye’s PP, PE markets at multi-year lows; downward pressure continues for Oct by Merve Madakbaşı
Polyolefin markets remain under pressure as September closes, with prices receding amid weak seasonal demand, abundant supply, and challenging global conditions. Buyers continue to push for lower October bids, while sellers struggle with thin margins and limited room for dramatic cuts for select products. Globally, muted European demand, China’s upcoming National Day holiday, and cautious post-monsoon expectations from India are shaping sentiment in Türkiye, leaving market participants wary of a near-term rebound... 26-09-2025
China PE eases after brief uptick as Golden September flare burns out too soon by Elif Sevde Yalçın
China’s PE markets failed to sustain their early-September uptick, with prices slipping again by mid-month as demand proved too weak to support further gains. Unlike PP, PE had managed modest increases during the first half of the month, raising hopes for a stronger “Golden September.” But the seasonal boost quickly ran out of steam, leaving the market facing renewed softness instead of stability or further hikes... 24-09-2025
Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.
When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.
ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
