Stats: China sustains net PP exports in April; PE imports surge by Thi Huong Nguyen
According to ChemOrbis Stats Wizard, China saw significant shifts in its PP and PE foreign trade during April. While exports of both polymers declined from March, the county remained a net exporter of PP for the second consecutive month. At the same time, PE imports surged, reinforcing the country’s continued reliance on foreign PE supply despite growing domestic capacity... 09-06-2025

Stats: Türkiye’s April polymer imports hit an all-time high by Merve Madakbaşı
According to ChemOrbis Stats Wizard, Türkiye’s total April polymer imports pointed to the highest monthly volume since ChemOrbis started to compile data in 2003. The figure indicated an increase of 21% from the previous month and was up by 12.5% from April 2024. Saudi Arabia remained the number one polymer supplier, followed by the USA and South Korea. Meanwhile, the total import value at $717 million represented a 23% gain month over month... 05-06-2025

Mid-Eastern PP raffia hits $850 CIF mark in China; LDPE film breaks below $1000 by Elif Sevde Yalçın
After the Dragon Boat Festival break, China’s import polyolefin markets remain under pressure as weak demand and ample supplies continue to weigh heavily on sentiment. In the PE sector, prices for key film grades are dropping to multi-month or even multi-year lows at lower ends, despite relatively stable upper-end offers. The PP market mirrors this trend, with oversupply and weak demand capping any potential recovery in pricing... 04-06-2025

Türkiye’s PP, PE, and PVC markets eye post-Eid for direction by Merve Madakbaşı
Polyolefin markets showed signs of stabilization after months of downward momentum in Türkiye in the second half of May. Sellers took a firmer stance on pricing amid rising freight rates, margin pressures, and narrowing gaps with Asian markets. Similarly, PVC sentiment among sellers was underpinned by price hikes across Asia this week, with some traders signaling higher US offers to Türkiye... 30-05-2025

Europe’s polyolefin drops to lose momentum amid stabilizing sentiment by Manolya Tufan
European polyolefin markets show signs of stabilizing after two consecutive months of steady declines. While price drops are still anticipated for June, the pace of softening is widely expected to slow down amid growing expectations that the market may be approaching a floor. Projections for a modest pickup in restocking interest and logistical developments—particularly rising freight rates and maritime disruptions—are contributing to this shift in sentiment, as imports scheduled for Q4 delivery may arrive at costlier levels... 29-05-2025
Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.
When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.
ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
