Supply limitations bolster Feb PP and PE outlook in Turkey
by Merve Madakbaşı
Polyolefin prices moved further north as 2023 kicked off, with suppliers receiving good demand from their customers for their limited volumes, particularly in the first half of January. Players have already started to discuss the February outlook amid indications from global outlets. They mainly expect markets to retain their strength due to the waning supply in Turkey...

Weak activities press import PE, PP suppliers for discounts in Egypt
by Başak Ceylan
Import PE and PP markets in Egypt started off 2023 with price concessions from suppliers, largely due to tough resistance towards price increase attempts amid weakened activities. Major Middle Eastern producers either rolled over or decreased their offers for PE grades while PP offers for January were down by more than 5% on average from last week...

Price erosion continues inside Middle Eastern polyolefins markets
by Başak Ceylan
After having wrapped up a slow year in terms of activities, Middle Eastern PP and PE markets made a weak start to the year. Although most suppliers approached the regional markets either with rollovers or price decreases, some producers used supply issues as leverage to push for increases. However, those prices contrasted strikingly with present demand conditions...

European PP, PE markets open 2023 with renewed drops
by Manolya Tufan
Regional polyolefin markets extended losses into the second month as 2023 kicked off amid lower monomer settlements, lethargic demand and a lack of supply issues. The size of drops was again varying based on the supply position and starting level...

End of China’s ‘zero-COVID’ stance: Double-edged sword for Asia PVC, PP and PE markets
by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
Asian PVC and polyolefins markets are searching for direction amid expectations that China’s lifting of most COVID restrictions would strengthen demand and trigger pent-up buying activity, which would also crimp availability to other Asian markets. On the other hand, the rising COVID numbers in China is prompting players to take a guarded view ahead...

About ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE) prices and Plastics News

Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.

When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Turkey, Italy and Vietnam.

ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
