China PE offers, including re-exported Mid-Eastern cargoes, keep circulating in Vietnam but struggle to gain traction
by Thi Huong Nguyen
Chinese-origin PE and Middle Eastern cargoes re-exported from China have continued to be offered in Vietnam, even as buying interest has remained subdued. Although offer levels have edged down slightly from the previous week amid softer upstream values, they remain elevated and widely divergent across suppliers, reflecting sellers' attempts to capitalize on firmer regional sentiment while testing buyers' willingness to negotiate...

Oil roller coaster in July H2 fails to derail most polymer rallies
by Esra Ersöz
Just two weeks ago, the question was whether the renewed war premium in crude oil could finally put a floor under polymer markets after months of relentless declines. Brent crude extended its rally far beyond expectations, climbing from the mid-$80s/bbl in H1 July to briefly settle above $100/bbl on July 23 as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East intensified. This visibly shifted the sentiment upwards in Asia including China, Southeast Asia and India as well in Türkiye and Egypt while the slump slowed down in Europe...

Fading low ends signal a turning point for Europe’s PE market
by Manolya Tufan
Europe’s PE market has entered a new phase as the prolonged downtrend that dominated the past three months appears to have run its course. While demand remains seasonally weak and most buyers continue to purchase cautiously ahead of the summer holidays, low-end offers that defined the market in early July have largely disappeared. At the same time, producers have become increasingly reluctant to sell at previous levels, encouraged by firmer feedstock expectations, higher import costs and renewed volatility in energy markets...

Oil price swings barely dent sellers' confidence in Türkiye's polymer markets
by Merve Madakbaşı
Global crude oil markets experienced sharp volatility this week after the US and Iran agreed to pause hostilities over the weekend. Brent crude, which had briefly climbed above the $100/bbl threshold last week amid escalating geopolitical tensions, tumbled below $90/bbl at the start of the week before briefly dipping under $85/bbl on Tuesday, marking a swing of more than $15/bbl within a week...

Oil slump leaves China, SE Asia polymer markets without direction as buyers step back
by Merve Sezgün
Polymer markets across China and Southeast Asia have entered a period of uncertainty after crude oil erased much of last week's war-driven rally. While Brent tumbled from around $100/bbl to below $90/bbl in just two trading sessions, both polymers and their upstream olefins have lost directional momentum. Players increasingly describe the current environment as having "no clear direction," preferring to wait and see whether the latest correction in crude proves temporary or develops into a broader downtrend...

About ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE) prices and Plastics News

Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.

When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.

ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
