China’s comeback: What’s in store for polymer markets after the break?
by Merve Sezgün
Chinese polymer players are stepping away from their desks this week as the country observes the National Day holiday. Despite the seasonal optimism brought by ‘Golden September, Silver October,’ demand recovery across most polymer segments has fallen short of expectations. Prices have struggled to gain momentum due to persistent oversupply, weaker international demand, and a sluggish domestic economy...

Flimsy demand keeps PP, PE outlook softer in Europe
by Laura Pisano
The polyolefin markets faltered under a weaker sentiment post the summer, unable to maintain the modest gains achieved over the past two months. Indeed, initial hike attempts failed to pass on September PP and PE deals due to sluggish demand and lower costs. Although rollovers were still reported in a few cases, most players closed their deals with small decreases of €20-30/ton in line with the monomer settlements...

China’s PE recovery lags as demand falls short amid oversupply woes
by Merve Sezgün
China’s PE markets remained largely stable this week, as the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday slowed trading activity and led to a further buildup in domestic inventories. The modest price gains from the previous week faded, with seasonal demand falling short of expectations, dampening hopes for a more robust recovery...

LDPE sees notable drops due to ebbing demand, easing supply in Türkiye
by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s PE markets opened September on a stable note, with most regular suppliers issuing rollovers. However, fading hopes for a revival in European demand, easing container freight rates, and tepid demand from Turkish buyers led to modest discounts on deals. Meanwhile, LDPE turned relatively bearish this week, facing more noticeable drops compared to LLDPE and HDPE film...

Mid-East polyolefin market sentiment turns bearish in September
by Nada Samir  and Esra Ersöz
In the Middle East, polyolefin markets have mostly snapped a two-month uptrend in September. The bearish pressure from weakening global markets, falling costs and dwindling downstream demand have outweighed supply hiccups and shipping disruptions across the bloc. Although Saudi PE markets bucked the overall trend with slight price hikes hitting 16–17-month highs, they are expected to correct down in the second half of the month...

About ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE) prices and Plastics News

Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.

When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.

ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
