Türkiye’s PP, PE markets open June on firm footing due to limited supply
by Merve Madakbaşı
Polyolefins have posted price hikes regardless of the short working month of June, with supply constraints coming to the fore and mitigating the impact of tepid downstream demand in Türkiye. However, a recent plunge in global oil markets, driven by OPEC’s decision to phase out output cuts gradually next year, cast a pall over the upward trend...

India’s June import PE, PP prices stable to higher amid monsoon
by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
Amid monsoon rains that hit the southern tip of the Indian peninsula and the country’s northeast region slightly earlier than the typical onset in the beginning of June, import pricing levels to India were stable to higher from a month earlier...

LDPE film keeps outperforming HDPE, LLDPE across China, SE Asia
by Thi Huong Nguyen
LDPE film has begun to expand its deltas with HDPE and LLDPE film throughout Asia since January. The ongoing turnaround season in the region and the Middle East, accompanied by a rally in ocean freight rates, has continuously boosted PE prices, particularly for LDPE film. The current deltas are therefore at their highest points since late 2022...

Europe’s polymer markets impervious to surging freight rates amid weak fundamentals
by Manolya Tufan
Regional polymer markets are torn between rising shipping costs and subdued market fundamentals as June approaches. The sentiment for most polymers has barely changed given chronic adversities, even though import prices saw some increases driven by surging freight costs. We will delve into the reasons behind the polymer markets’ indifference to the soaring ocean freight rates and accompanying import supply disruptions...

Will Africa’s PP, PE markets extend drops into June?
by Nada Samir
In Africa, PP and PE markets saw lower offers from the Middle Eastern suppliers in May, marking the second consecutive month of price drops as a knee-jerk response to bearish crude oil futures, not to mention challenging economic headwinds and thin derivative demand. Nevertheless, elusive supplies amidst persistent Red Sea disruptions deterred steep falls. Now the question is whether this bearish sentiment will continue next month or not...

About ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE) prices and Plastics News

Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.

When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.

ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
