Ramadan lethargy pervades Türkiye's polyolefin markets by Merve Madakbaşı
Although sellers approached the market with modest increase targets in March, supported by limited import supply, PP and PE offers in Türkiye failed to rise significantly due to Ramadan lethargy. In most cases, resin producers scaled back their initial hike targets or offered stable prices with slight discounts on a monthly basis. A few players have already stated that they do not expect any price increases in April due to current market dynamics and added that prices may even see slight downward corrections if cost support fades... 14-03-2025

India’s LDPE film demand strengthens; other polyolefins languish by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
India’s LDPE import prices have hit near 7-month highs on the back of tighter supplies and higher seasonal demand, while other PE and PP markets have remained mostly stable over the past month, stuck between the lack of demand and ongoing turnarounds... 13-03-2025

China’s PE markets firm up, but impending capacity boom threatens sustainability by Thi Huong Nguyen
China's PE markets followed a stable-to-firmer trend during the week ending March 7, supported by import supply constraints and a moderate demand recovery. Import prices for PE grades reached multi-month highs, while domestic LDPE prices recouped the previous week’s losses thanks to tighter availability. However, downward pressure remains from falling crude oil prices and impending large-scale capacity expansions, which could challenge sellers’ firm stance in the coming weeks... 11-03-2025

Will import PP and PE sellers achieve their new hike targets for March in Türkiye? by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s import polyolefin markets have been rising gradually since late December 2024, mainly due to reduced volumes from the Middle East, the US, and Russia. Although cost support has weakened amid softening shipping costs and falling crude oil futures, restricted import availability has paved the way for renewed hike requests from regular suppliers for March. Nonetheless, mounting resistance from converters amid the Ramadan lull may force sellers to concede to rollovers, with negotiations underway... 07-03-2025

Turnarounds, dollar strength support India’s import PP, PE markets by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
India’s PP and PE markets have mostly recorded price increases over the past month, driven by regional plant turnarounds and the strengthening US dollar against the Indian rupee. Players are mostly expecting a stable to firmer market in the near term... 27-02-2025
Polyethylene (PE) is a product group produced by the conversion of ethylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polyethylene (PE) is the world's most common plastic in use today. It is divided into three groups: Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE)
Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) is used in greenhouse covering materials, stretch and shrink films while Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) is mostly used in packaging and plastic bags. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), on the other hand, is further divided into film, injection, blow molding and pipe grades and it is used in a variety of products and applications. HDPE film is used in the manufacture of bags and HDPE injection is used in the manufacture of fruit crates. HDPE blow molding is used in the manufacture of cleaning and cosmetic bottles while HDPE pipe is used in infrastructure applications.
When looked at the most important buyer and supplier countries in the Polyethylene (PE) market, the USA tops the list of net PE exporters as it accounts for over 20% of the world’s total PE exports. Although far behind the USA’s share, Singapore, Canada and Belgium follow in the list. China yet again ranks as the biggest importer, accounting for more than 30% of the world’s total PE imports as of 2020. China is followed by relatively smaller markets, such as Türkiye, Italy and Vietnam.
ChemOrbis Polyethylene (PE ) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PE facilities.
