Deeper Middle East supply shock vs. fragile ceasefire relief: Türkiye PP, PE rally tested
by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s polyolefin markets opened the week on a firm footing but quickly turned into a complex battleground of supply shocks and macro-driven hesitation. A fresh round of hikes from Petkim set the tone early on, reinforcing bullish sentiment that had already been building on tightening import availability since the eruption of the Middle East war in late February...

Middle East war cost for Europe: Polymer prices surge back toward pandemic-era highs
by Manolya Tufan  and Esra Ersöz
The outbreak of the Middle East war at the end of February triggered a sharp upswing across Europe’s polymer markets, with prices rising at varying magnitudes depending on product fundamentals. Polyolefins led the rally by a wide margin, while other polymer chains also moved higher, albeit at a more moderate pace, largely driven by cost inflation rather than imminent supply shortages...

UPDATED: Middle East supply disruptions spread across key hubs
by Esra Ersöz
*Updated following the airstrikes on Assaluyah Hub in Iran and Jubail Hub in Saudi Arabia on April 7, 2026 – The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz and escalating geopolitical tensions have sent shock waves across global petrochemical markets, triggering steep price hikes since the onset of the war. The Middle East, a critical supplier to Asia, Europe, and neighboring regions, holds a dominant position particularly in polyolefins exports, making any disruption in the region immediately felt across global supply chains...

Four weeks into war: Polymer rally hits multi-year highs, momentum slows; are further hikes ahead in April?
by Esra Ersöz
The final week of March, marking one month since the outbreak of the war in the Middle East, began with a sharp pullback in crude oil following the steep gains seen during the first three weeks. This triggered renewed volatility across the upstream chain, where feedstocks and monomers have borne the brunt of the impact. Meanwhile, the rally largely persisted on the polymers side, although its pace appears to have eased in several products...

SE Asia, India outpace China in war-driven PP rally as import dependence magnifies supply shock
by Merve Sezgün
Asia’s import PP markets have been thrown into turmoil since the outbreak of the Middle East war, but the price shock has not been evenly distributed. While import homo-PP prices in Southeast Asia, China, and India have all surged sharply over the past four weeks, Southeast Asia and India have absorbed a much heavier blow than China, exposing the vulnerability of more import-dependent markets to geopolitical disruptions...

About ChemOrbis Polypropylene (PP) prices and Plastics News

Polypropylene (PP) is a product group produced by the conversion of propylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polypropylene (PP) is the world's second largest polymer in terms of consumption. There are two main types of PP: Homo-PP and PP Copolymer.

Homo-PP (PPH) is further divided into various grades, such as raffia, injection, fiber, film, BOPP and non-woven. Homo-PP is used in various applications, such as sacks, gift wraps, carpet yarns, kitchenware, automotive parts, food packaging, sanitary pads, diapers and wet wipes. PP Copolymer, which is made more durable by the addition of ethylene monomer during the conversion process, is used in household appliances, automotive and electrical parts and pipe applications.

Looking at the most important net buyer and supplier countries in the polypropylene (PP) market, China stands at the top of the list of importing countries. As of 2020, China alone realizes 25% of the world’s total PP imports. China is followed by Türkiye, which imports 10% of the world’s total PP production, while Italy occupies the third place in rankings. South Korea, Malaysia and Germany comprise the top three main PP suppliers.

ChemOrbis Polypropylene (PP) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PP facilities.
