Europe PP, PE outlook for 2025: Battle of margins amid supply surpluses and trade flow shifts
by Manolya Tufan  and Esra Ersöz
Polyolefin markets began 2024 with a transportation crisis driven by Red Sea turmoil, fueling steep price gains in Q1. Prices then trended downward in subsequent quarters, with brief rebounds unable to match Q1 levels. Global overcapacity and weak demand were key factors, as producers tried to adjust output to protect margins, but with little success...

Middle East PP, PE outlook for 2025: A double whammy of low demand and new capacity additions
by Nada Samir  and Esra Ersöz
Saudi Arabia, the UAE and East Med markets have all experienced much less volatility this year than they did last year, although PP and PE prices have been on a downward trajectory in the last quarter. Early expectations for January point to a potential shift in prices while geopolitics and capacity additions continue to cast a pall on the region for the rest of the year...

Türkiye PP, PE outlook for 2025: Q1 set for a firm footing, eyes on derivatives for a whole year
by Merve Madakbaşı
Polyolefin markets have struggled to see significant price increases this year, apart from the first quarter, which was buoyed by a surge in freight rates driven by Middle East tensions and active derivatives demand. From the second quarter onward, prices lacked strong momentum due to waning demand for end products that fell short of seasonal expectations amid economic challenges. The second half of 2024 started under the influence of declining freight rates. However, a recent recovery in shipping costs has not prevented the typical year-end slowdown in Türkiye...

India PP, PE outlook for 2025: Players eye brighter Q1 despite current bearishness
by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
Import prices of polyolefins have fallen in India ahead of the year-end amid lackluster demand for end-products and a perception of ample availability in the country. Suppliers, in the middle of paring down excess inventories to hold more cash before closing their books for the year, have offered discounted prices for large buyers but deals have been few and far between. Despite these bearish conditions, traders remain optimistic about a market recovery in early 2025...

PLAST EURASIA 2024: Shrinking margins emerge as a key topic among polymer players
by Merve Madakbaşı
Global plastics players have gathered in Istanbul since December 4 for the 33rd Plast Eurasia Fair. Shrinking margins for both converters and polymer producers emerged as a key topic of discussion during the event, with most participants agreeing that prices might see a recovery in January. Nonetheless, economic hurdles are expected to persist for a while longer, dampening end-consumer spending. Petrochemical companies are likely to maintain supply management strategies through 2025. The fair will conclude on December 7...

About ChemOrbis Polypropylene (PP) prices and Plastics News

Polypropylene (PP) is a product group produced by the conversion of propylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polypropylene (PP) is the world's second largest polymer in terms of consumption. There are two main types of PP: Homo-PP and PP Copolymer.

Homo-PP (PPH) is further divided into various grades, such as raffia, injection, fiber, film, BOPP and non-woven. Homo-PP is used in various applications, such as sacks, gift wraps, carpet yarns, kitchenware, automotive parts, food packaging, sanitary pads, diapers and wet wipes. PP Copolymer, which is made more durable by the addition of ethylene monomer during the conversion process, is used in household appliances, automotive and electrical parts and pipe applications.

Looking at the most important net buyer and supplier countries in the polypropylene (PP) market, China stands at the top of the list of importing countries. As of 2020, China alone realizes 25% of the world’s total PP imports. China is followed by Türkiye, which imports 10% of the world’s total PP production, while Italy occupies the third place in rankings. South Korea, Malaysia and Germany comprise the top three main PP suppliers.
