European PVC markets weaken in Nov as demand slows, imports weigh by Manolya Tufan
European PVC markets adopted a softer note in November as sellers struggled to defend margins amid muted demand, ample supply and continued pressure from Asian imports. The lower ethylene settlement added further pressure on PVC prices, making modest reductions more common across the region despite ongoing rollover attempts, with some distributors applying slightly larger cuts to stimulate sales in a highly competitive environment... 13-11-2025
Cautious optimism returns for US PVC in Türkiye as sellers resist further cuts by Merve Madakbaşı
Players focused on new price announcements this week, with attention once again turning to cautiously improving sentiment for US-origin cargoes. A major US PVC producer was reportedly unwilling to offer discounts from current price levels, a stance attributed to a maintenance shutdown at one of its plants. In mid-September, US-origin PVC tumbled to five-year lows across key markets, pulling global benchmarks back to levels last seen in the early months of the pandemic... 07-11-2025
Stats: Türkiye’s September polymer imports barely change on month, year by Merve Madakbaşı
According to ChemOrbis Stats Wizard, Türkiye’s total September polymer imports edged down by 1% from August, while they inched higher by 0.8% from September 2024. Saudi Arabia remained the number one polymer supplier with a 27% share, followed by South Korea (13%) and the US (11%). Meanwhile, the total import value slightly rose to nearly $532 million month over month, but indicated a yearly decline... 05-11-2025
Import PVC crashes through key thresholds in China, SEA, India; how low can it go? by Shibu Itty Kuttickal and Merve Sezgün
Asian PVC markets remain under intense downward pressure, with import K67 prices across major regions breaking below key psychological thresholds over the past two weeks. Prices in China have fallen to their lowest since 2008, while those in India and Southeast Asia have dropped lows last seen more than five years ago. The renewed weakness comes as a major Taiwanese producer reportedly trimmed its November offers to India again, according to traders... 31-10-2025
Europe PVC mainly stable in Oct; spot softness points to weaker Nov by Marta Rotini
Europe’s PVC markets followed a largely stable trend in October, considering the stable ethylene contract and producers’ need to protect their squeezed margins. Some spot reductions also emerged occasionally in order to stimulate buying appetite, which held stable but subdued in October. Supply was still ample in the region, partly due to the inflow of low-priced import PVC from Asia. Looking into November, a softer trend may prevail given lower demand projections, lingering oversupply, import pressure and decreasing costs... 28-10-2025
Unlike other polymers that are derived from crude oil and natural gas, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is part of the chlor-alkali industry. The main raw material used to produce PVC is sodium chloride. Caustic soda and chlorine are made via the electrolysis of sodium chloride. While caustic soda has its own uses, ethylene dichloride (EDC) is made by the chlorination of ethylene and chlorine, and is used primarily in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). In the final stage, PVC is produced by polymerization of VCM.
PVC is divided into two categories: emulsion PVC and suspension PVC. While emulsion PVC (E-PVC) has a limited area of use, suspension PVC (S-PVC) enjoys a greater area of use. S-PVC grades are characterized by K values. K67-68 is the most commonly used PVC type. PVC K67-68 is used in profile and pipe applications and has a direct relation to the construction industry. Due to its dependence on the construction sector, PVC is also directly affected by the economic performance of countries, either positively or negatively.
PVC K64-65 is also used in the manufacture of pipes and profiles. K58 is used in rigid applications, such as injection molding, and the manufacture of credit cards and food packaging. K70 is used in the manufacture of shoes, cables, hoses, shower curtains, tablecloths and stationery.
Looking at the top buyers and sellers on a country-based breakdown, the USA is at the top of the list of largest exporters with a market share of more than 20%. Taiwan is the second largest PVC supplier, followed by Germany. India is the top PVC buyer in global markets by a long way. Although China has reduced its dependence on imports with new PVC capacities it has commissioned over the last 20 years, it still ranks as the second largest PVC importer in the world. In addition, China has the world's largest acetylene-based PVC capacities. China is followed by Türkiye and Italy, having almost the same level of market share in PVC imports.
ChemOrbis Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PVC facilities.
