India’s polymer export ambitions face headwinds as 25% US tariff looms
by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
US President Donald Trump's 25% tariff on Indian imports, effective August 1st and linked to India's energy and defense ties with Russia, prompts re-evaluation across sectors. While broadly concerning, the plastics and polymers industry's impact may be more nuanced than initially feared...

PP softens, PE firm: India's polyolefins market in July drift
by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
India's PP prices experienced a softening trend through July, primarily due to rising inventories among both producers and buyers. This accumulation weighed heavily on market sentiment, transforming it into a “buyers' market”. Conversely, PE found support from firmer Middle Eastern offers, though overall momentum remained scattered amidst the monsoon season's typical demand slowdown and logistical hurdles...

China’s import homo-PP dips below local market after months; export prices hit 2-year low
by Thi Huong Nguyen  and Merve Sezgün
China’s PP market saw a notable shift last week, with import homo-PP raffia prices falling slightly below local levels for the first time since late 2024. Despite a modest recovery in the domestic market, China’s export prices extended their losses, reaching their lowest levels in more than two years due to ongoing global competition and muted demand...

PPBC loses premium over PPH amid weak market dynamics in Türkiye
by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s PP markets saw modest hike attempts in early July, supported by reduced stock pressure on sellers following bulky purchases in June when Middle East tensions had pushed up upstream and shipping costs. These factors encouraged sellers to seek firmer prices. However, faltering resin demand forced them to trim initial hike targets, particularly at the high end of the homo-PP market...

Stats: China’s PP, PE trade volumes shrink in June amid demand woes
by Thi Huong Nguyen
ChemOrbis Stats Wizard suggests that China’s foreign trade of PP and PE declined across the board in June, reflecting a sustained downtrend in polyolefin imports and persistently volatile exports. The drop in trade volumes reflects sluggish domestic and global demand, compounded by a fragile macroeconomic environment, logistical risks, and trade-related uncertainties...

About ChemOrbis Polypropylene (PP) prices and Plastics News

Polypropylene (PP) is a product group produced by the conversion of propylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polypropylene (PP) is the world's second largest polymer in terms of consumption. There are two main types of PP: Homo-PP and PP Copolymer.

Homo-PP (PPH) is further divided into various grades, such as raffia, injection, fiber, film, BOPP and non-woven. Homo-PP is used in various applications, such as sacks, gift wraps, carpet yarns, kitchenware, automotive parts, food packaging, sanitary pads, diapers and wet wipes. PP Copolymer, which is made more durable by the addition of ethylene monomer during the conversion process, is used in household appliances, automotive and electrical parts and pipe applications.

Looking at the most important net buyer and supplier countries in the polypropylene (PP) market, China stands at the top of the list of importing countries. As of 2020, China alone realizes 25% of the world’s total PP imports. China is followed by Türkiye, which imports 10% of the world’s total PP production, while Italy occupies the third place in rankings. South Korea, Malaysia and Germany comprise the top three main PP suppliers.

ChemOrbis Polypropylene (PP) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PP facilities.
