Stats: China’s H1 PP exports hit record high, gap with imports narrows to historic low by Thi Huong Nguyen
The first half of 2025 marked an exceptional performance for China’s PP exports, with volumes significantly exceeding those seen in the second half of last year. In contrast, PP imports continued to shrink, reaching the lowest level in more than 16 years... 20-08-2025
Mid-East PP markets show weaker performance than PE in August; Saudi PP hits all-time lows by Esra Ersöz
PP markets in the Middle East underperformed PE in August, with PP facing steeper declines and sharper sentiment deterioration. After a brief recovery last month, sellers’ attempts to hold prices at July levels quickly faltered under firm buyer resistance, particularly in PP, where the absence of meaningful demand drivers left producers with little leverage. While PE mostly hovered around last month’s levels with only minor adjustments, PP endured more pronounced downward revisions, including record-low pricing in Saudi Arabia’s PPH segment since market tracking began... 19-08-2025
Earlier supply concerns eclipsed by low demand in Türkiye’s August PP, PE markets by Merve Madakbaşı
After recording price gains in the first quarter of 2025, Türkiye’s polyolefin markets shifted direction in April. Prices stabilized in May, then recovered modestly in June, supported by sellers’ reduced stocks and several unplanned production outages. In the third quarter, however, slowing demand came to the forefront, while easing tensions in the Middle East limited further increases. By August, earlier supply concerns had largely disappeared amid easing import volumes, and both PP and PE markets moved into softer territory... 15-08-2025
China’s old plant closure hype quickly fades in polymer markets by Merve Sezgün
China’s recent pledge to shutter aging petrochemical facilities briefly lifted sentiment in the polymer markets in mid-July, but the optimism faded quickly. Gains were seen mainly during the week of the announcement—the third week of July—when futures and some spot markets reacted positively. Since then, weak demand and abundant supply have reasserted pressure across PVC, PP, PE, and PET markets, making the policy boost little more than a “flash in the pan” in the short term... 13-08-2025
SEA’s import PP extends downtrend into August; prices dip further from 19-month lows by Thi Huong Nguyen
Import PP prices in Southeast Asia extended their downward trend into early August, slipping further from their lowest levels in over 19 months as of the week ending August 8. Despite some sellers' attempts to hold offers steady, weak buying interest and bearish sentiment continued to dominate, exerting sustained downward pressure on PP prices and casting a shadow over the near-term outlook... 11-08-2025
Polypropylene (PP) is a product group produced by the conversion of propylene monomer through a process of polymerization. Polypropylene (PP) is the world's second largest polymer in terms of consumption. There are two main types of PP: Homo-PP and PP Copolymer.
Homo-PP (PPH) is further divided into various grades, such as raffia, injection, fiber, film, BOPP and non-woven. Homo-PP is used in various applications, such as sacks, gift wraps, carpet yarns, kitchenware, automotive parts, food packaging, sanitary pads, diapers and wet wipes. PP Copolymer, which is made more durable by the addition of ethylene monomer during the conversion process, is used in household appliances, automotive and electrical parts and pipe applications.
Looking at the most important net buyer and supplier countries in the polypropylene (PP) market, China stands at the top of the list of importing countries. As of 2020, China alone realizes 25% of the world’s total PP imports. China is followed by Türkiye, which imports 10% of the world’s total PP production, while Italy occupies the third place in rankings. South Korea, Malaysia and Germany comprise the top three main PP suppliers.
