Bearish polymer trend prevails after extended holidays in Turkey by Merve Madakbaşı
Polymer players reported that the downfall continued in the post-holiday period for several resins as demand has failed to pick up in Turkey. PP, PVC, PE, and PS prices all witnessed new rounds of drops this week as buying appetite remained thin given a slew of factors... 22-07-2022
Downtrend in Asian styrenic polymers may continue through July by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
Styrenic polymers in China and Southeast Asia have seen prices falling by significant degrees in the four months since early March as demand kept weakening and feedstock styrene prices stayed mostly under pressure. Market players expect the downtrend to continue through July... 13-07-2022
European PS market shattered by massive hikes, even rollovers ensue for ABS by Manolya Tufan
Styrenics markets in Europe were shattered by the extent of fresh hikes in styrene and benzene settlements for July. PS offers emerged with massive hikes, while ABS saw rollovers or milder hikes under the shadow of weak demand. Players discuss what lies ahead, as the sentiment is torn between strong costs and weak fundamentals... 11-07-2022
Europe’s PS, ABS markets supported by higher styrene, will it last long? by Manolya Tufan
In Europe’s styrenics markets, a slight increase in the monthly styrene contact took players by surprise as they were anticipating visible drops. June styrene contracts settled slightly higher following a hefty hike in benzene settlement. Although PS and ABS players had earlier foreseen large drops in June, regional suppliers mostly approached the market with rollovers to small decreases... 13-06-2022
Polystyrene (PS) is formed by the polymerization of styrene feedstock. As styrene is formed by adding ethylene into the benzene feedstock, benzene and ethylene prices are also taken into consideration, in addition to styrene while examining the production costs of PS.
There are two types of PS, namely GPPS and HIPS. These are divided into subgroups as injection and extrusion. While plastic hangers, protective foam, disposable cutlery, CD boxes are made of GPPS, HIPS is used in white goods and electronics.
The world's largest PS buyer is again China by a long way. As of 2020, China alone carries out 35% of global imports. It was followed by Malaysia and Germany, with 6% and 5% shares, respectively. Taiwan ranks first among the top PS importers list, followed by Belgium and France.
ChemOrbis Polystyrene (PS) prices and Plastics News section contain information on the market trends, as well as supply-demand factors and production costs that determine the pricing, statistics on imports and exports, along with maintenance shutdowns, restarts, and new capacities related to PS facilities.
