India PVC jumps amid global supply uncertainty; local K67 hits highest since Aug 2024 by Shibu Itty Kuttickal
The Indian PVC market has shifted into a high-gear rally in early March, driven by a combination of geopolitical volatility and trade defence measures. As disruptions in the Middle East challenge global logistics, the domestic cost of production and import replacement has faced an abrupt upward reset... 05-03-2026
European PVC markets prepare for March hike attempts as margins stay under strain by Manolya Tufan
European PVC players have shifted their focus to March after wrapping up February negotiations largely at stable to slightly firmer levels. While producers are expected to test new increases in line with a projected rise in the March ethylene contract, weak demand fundamentals and ongoing competition to protect volumes are likely to cap the scope of any uptrend... 27-02-2026
Türkiye’s PVC market faces tangible price hikes after a long hiatus by Merve Madakbaşı
PVC price hikes in Türkiye have escalated as February wore on, with this week’s latest round of hikes pushing K67 levels to multi-month highs. Since the start of 2026, dutiable K67 has gained a cumulative $85/ton, while duty-free material has risen by $65/ton, reflecting tightening supply and firm seller stances. Although buyers have attempted to resist the pace of increases, the bullish scene stimulated buying interest... 19-02-2026
Import PVC prices in Türkiye hit multi-month highs on Asian momentum by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s PVC market extended its upward trajectory into the second half of February, with import prices climbing back to multi-month highs amid fresh global cues from Asia and continued firmness from US suppliers. Stats: Türkiye’s polymer imports hit a new all-time high in 2025 despite financial strains by Merve Madakbaşı
Türkiye’s total polymer imports reached a new record in 2025. The country imported approximately 6.3 million tons over the year, data from ChemOrbis Stats Wizard showed, surpassing the previous record of 6.2 million tons set in 2023. The volume marked a 5% increase from 2024. The fresh peak in imports coincided with an improving macroeconomic backdrop, particularly through mid-2025, when GDP growth accelerated to 4.8% year-on-year in Q2 after a softer 2% rise in Q1, before easing to 3.7% in Q3... 06-02-2026
Unlike other polymers that are derived from crude oil and natural gas, Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is part of the chlor-alkali industry. The main raw material used to produce PVC is sodium chloride. Caustic soda and chlorine are made via the electrolysis of sodium chloride. While caustic soda has its own uses, ethylene dichloride (EDC) is made by the chlorination of ethylene and chlorine, and is used primarily in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). In the final stage, PVC is produced by polymerization of VCM.
PVC is divided into two categories: emulsion PVC and suspension PVC. While emulsion PVC (E-PVC) has a limited area of use, suspension PVC (S-PVC) enjoys a greater area of use. S-PVC grades are characterized by K values. K67-68 is the most commonly used PVC type. PVC K67-68 is used in profile and pipe applications and has a direct relation to the construction industry. Due to its dependence on the construction sector, PVC is also directly affected by the economic performance of countries, either positively or negatively.
PVC K64-65 is also used in the manufacture of pipes and profiles. K58 is used in rigid applications, such as injection molding, and the manufacture of credit cards and food packaging. K70 is used in the manufacture of shoes, cables, hoses, shower curtains, tablecloths and stationery.
Looking at the top buyers and sellers on a country-based breakdown, the USA is at the top of the list of largest exporters with a market share of more than 20%. Taiwan is the second largest PVC supplier, followed by Germany. India is the top PVC buyer in global markets by a long way. Although China has reduced its dependence on imports with new PVC capacities it has commissioned over the last 20 years, it still ranks as the second largest PVC importer in the world. In addition, China has the world's largest acetylene-based PVC capacities. China is followed by Türkiye and Italy, having almost the same level of market share in PVC imports.
