ASEAN manufacturing grows for 2nd straight month in Dec
The headline PMI came in at 50.8 in December, up from 50.0 in November. This marks the first time that the monthly index rose above 50.0 mark since February.
Looking at the seven ASEAN countries covered by the survey, Singapore (55.0) ranked the first place with its headline PMI reaching 7-month high in December. The monthly PMI figures of Vietnam (51.7), Indonesia (51.3) and Thailand (50.8) continued to signal further expansion in the health of the manufacturing sector.
On the other hand, the Philippines’ (49.2) manufacturing PMI contracted for the third month in a row in December, while Malaysia (49.1) showed a mild downturn when compared to November. Myanmar remained at the bottom of the list for another month with a headline figure of 44.7.
