BASF to build gas-fed propylene plant at Texas

According to market sources, German petrochemical major BASF will build a gas-fed propylene plant in Freeport, Texas. The plant is expected to have a production capacity of 475,000 tons/year and will reportedly use high methane content natural gas as feedstock. ,

The company selected France’s natural gases supplier Air Liquide to provide basic engineering services for the plant. The project is subject to approval from the BASF Board of Executive Directors in 2016 while the company has not yet specified a date and cost for the project.
