According to media sources, Beijing and Tianjin ramped up Covid-19 lockdown measures amid increasing new cases, while Shanghai has taken tentative steps for the planned reopening.

In China, overall new cases are decreasing, while Beijing, Henan, Shanghai, Sichuan and Tianjin reported more than 20 infections last week, leading to widespread restriction remain in place. Shanghai has seen cases stable at a three-digit level while Tianjin and Beijing reported 49 and 99 new cases, respectively, on Sunday. Beijing extended work-from-home requirement for its 22 million residents after the city reported 99 new cases on Sunday.

In Shanghai, more people have been allowed to leave their houses for brief periods over the past week and a small part of the world’s longest subway system was reopened on Sunday after having remained shut for almost two months, paving the way for the full reopening scheduled for June 1.
