Bhatinda Refinery to increase capacity

According to media reports, Bhatinda Refinery in India, which is a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd and Mittal Energy Investment Pvt. Ltd, is planning to increase its capacity to 18 million tons/year. Currently, the capacity of the refinery is initially being increased to 11.5 million tons/year from 9 million tons/year, which will be eventually increased to 18 million tons/year after the initial target is achieved.

The reports indicated that a new petrochemical plant will also be built as part of the expansion project, which is expected to include a naphtha cracker.

The expansion might reportedly cost the company INR200-300 billion ($2.95-4.45 billion).
