Borealis declares force majeure on PE, PP from Schwechat

According to sources close to the company, Borealis declared force majeure on PE and PP output from its Schwechat site, Austria on October 25, Wednesday. An unplanned maintenance shutdown at OMV’s ethylene cracker last week is thought to have pushed Borealis to declare force majeure.

Borealis reportedly uses olefins from OMV’s 500,000 tons/year ethylene cracker as feedstock at its Schwechat site.

It is not yet officially stated when OMV will restart its cracker and Borealis will lift the force majeure.

Borealis has a production capacity of 1,000,000 tons/year of PP and PE at its site.
