According to a statement on the company’s website, Borealis is planning to upgrade and revamp four of its current six furnaces at its cracker in Stenungsund, Sweden. The company will also permanently shut the remaining two furnaces at the cracker, which utilize older technology. The investment value was reported at €160 million ($177.2 million). The project is expected to start by late 2016 and be completed by 2020.

The company aims to reduce plant complexity and maintenance requirements and gain improved reliability via the upgrade project.
