Brazil imposes sharp hike in antidumping duty on US PVC

Brazil’s Executive Management Committee (Gecex) has approved a steep increase in the anti-dumping duty on imports of suspension-grade polyvinyl chloride (S-PVC) from the United States, raising the rate from 8.2% to 43.7%. The decision, driven by changing market conditions, is intended to safeguard domestic producers from unfair competition.

Meanwhile, Brazil is also evaluating the imposition of anti-dumping duties on polyethylene (PE) imports from the US and Canada. The investigation, prompted by a complaint from Braskem, alleges that exporters are selling the product in Brazil at below fair market value. A Gecex meeting to review the case, originally scheduled for May 29, has been postponed, with a new date yet to be set.

In a separate case, Brazil announced on April 3 the launch of an anti-dumping investigation into PET resin imports from Malaysia and Vietnam. The request was filed by producers Indorama Ventures and Alpek Polyester, who claim the imports are harming the domestic industry.
