According to market sources, 50% part-owner Phillips 66 reported that Chevron Phillips Chemical (CP Chem) will start up its steam cracker in Baytown and two PE units in Old Ocean, Texas on the US Gulf Coast in 2017. The company has completed around 85% of the construction. The steam cracker is expected to start up in the second half of the year and the PE units may start up before the cracker.

The cracker has a capacity of 1.5 million tons/year and the two PE plants have a capacity of 500,000 tons/year each.

CP Chem’s ethylene and PE capacity will be increased by one third with the activation of the steam cracker and PE units.
