China’s July polymer imports marginally down on month, up on year

ChemOrbis Import Statistics reveal that China’s total polymer imports edged down only marginally by around 0.7% in July on a month over month basis to reach 1,417,777 tons. However, when compared to the same month of 2016, the country’s polymer imports increased 5%.

The top five polymer exporters to China in July were South Korea (205,065tons), Taiwan (202,856 tons), Saudi Arabia (190,558 tons), the United Arab Emirates (171,313 tons) and Iran (171,313tons). Iran became one of the top five exporters to China again in July after it was out of the list in June given the payment issues when securing petrochemical goods from the country.

As for product-based breakdown, China’s HDPE imports fell 5.3% in July when compared to the previous month to reach 465,300 tons. On the other hand, HDPE imports increased around 13.3% on a yearly basis. The United Arab Emirates was the top HDPE supplier to China with 93,718 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (88,756 tons) and Iran (82,930 tons).

LLDPE imports were 3.6% higher on a month over month basis to be reported at 220,954 tons in July. When compared to the same month of 2016, they increased by around 13.6%. Singapore was the top supplier to China with 55,610 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (49,442 tons) and Thailand (27,255 tons).

LDPE imports increased 7.5% from a month earlier to be reported at 163,898 tons. On a yearly basis, they were slightly down by 1.9%. Iran was the top LDPE supplier to China with 24,901 tons, followed by Qatar (19,855 tons).

Imports for homo-PP were retreated 9.6% from June to reach 209,421 tons in July while they declined by 10% on a yearly basis. South Korea remained at the top of the homo-PP import list with 58,273 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (28,662 tons) and Taiwan (26,779 tons).

PP copolymer imports increased visibly by 6% month over month to reach 106,586 tons in July. On a yearly basis, PP copolymer imports also declined around 4%. Taiwan was the top exporter to China with 28,089 tons, followed by Singapore (26,379 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (17,998 tons).

China imported 53,069 tons of PVC in July, slightly up by around 1.5% from the previous month. On a yearly basis, PVC imports declined 1.8%. Taiwan stood at the top of the July PVC import list with 22,364 tons, followed by the US (13,796 tons) and Japan (12,609 tons).

Imports for PS were slightly down by 1.3% on a month over month basis to reach 42,116 tons in July. When compared to the same month of 2016, they posted a small decrease by around 1%. Taiwan was the top PS exporter to China with 18,534 tons.

For ABS, the country’s July imports posted a slight monthly decrease of 1.3% to reach 144,045 tons while they were increased around 12.2% from a year earlier. Taiwan was at the top of the ABS import list with 76,948 tons, followed by South Korea (44,739tons).
