China’s Sep polymer imports indicate 2017’s second largest volume

ChemOrbis Import Statistics reveal that China’s total polymer imports in September rose by around 7.2% on a month over month basis while a larger increase of 24% was in place on a year over year basis. The total import volume reached 1,799,532 tons in September; the second largest monthly volume seen so far in 2017 after March’s 1,840,073.

The top five polymer exporters to China in September were Saudi Arabia (283,257 tons), South Korea (260,616 tons), Taiwan (215,536 tons), Iran (193,277 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (163, 946 tons).

In product-based breakdown, China’s HDPE imports increased 5.8% in September when compared to the previous month to reach 566,718 tons. On a yearly basis, HDPE imports increased around 18.3% as well. Saudi Arabia was the top HDPE supplier to China with 127,050 tons, followed by Iran (109,963 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (91,185 tons).

LLDPE imports were around 16% higher on a month over month basis to be reported at 325,514 tons in September, which has been the highest import volume so far in 2017.
When compared to the same month of 2016, they increased significantly by around 46.1%. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier to China with 86,605 tons, followed by Singapore (77,826 tons) and Thailand (40,452 tons).

LDPE imports in September slightly softened around 4% from a month earlier to be reported at 222,018 tons. On a yearly basis, on the other hand, they were up visibly by around 50%. Iran was the top LDPE supplier to China with 61,549 tons, followed by Qatar (27,748 tons).

Imports for homo-PP rose around 9% from August to 272,546 tons in September while they were up by around 6.2% on a yearly basis as well. South Korea remained at the top of the homo-PP import list with 79,872 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (41,553 tons) and Taiwan (31,619 tons).

PP copolymer imports inched up 3.5% month over month to reach 107,975 tons in September. On a yearly basis, however, PP copolymer imports declined 12.5%. Singapore was the top exporter to China with 33,775 tons, followed by Taiwan (27,048 tons) and the South Korea (19,600 tons).

China’s PVC imports increased around 12% on a month over month basis in September to reach 84,510 tons. This has been the biggest import volume since August 2012. On a yearly basis, PVC imports considerably increased 88.62% in September as well. Taiwan stood at the top of the September PVC import list with 34,561 tons, followed by the US (24,732 tons) and Japan (16,536 tons).

Imports for PS were up by 17.4% from a month earlier to 53,061 tons in September, the highest import volume so far this year. When compared to the same month of 2016, they posted a significant increase of around 42%. Taiwan was the top PS exporter to China with 20,044 tons.

For ABS, the country’s September imports climbed by 6.8% to reach 159,099 tons, the highest import volume so far in 2017 while they were up by around 23% from a year earlier. Taiwan was at the top of the ABS import list 82,832 tons, followed by South Korea (49,777 tons).
