China’s exports rise, imports slow in May

China’s customs data showed the country’s May exports grew by 7.6% on an annualized basis in dollar terms following the 1.5% rise in April. Imports also increased by 1.8% on a yearly basis during May, slower than the 8.4% growth in the previous month.
Both exports and imports rose for the second consecutive month in May after contracting in March. However, concerns remain about the sustainability of export growth, while the slowdown in imports showed that domestic demand continues to weaken.
