China’s oil and gas production reaches record high in 2023

According to local media sources, China’s total oil and gas output exceeded 390 million tons in 2023, indicating a new record. The country’s oil production increased by over 3 million tons from the 2022 level to 208 million tons.

According to a statement made by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on Tuesday, open sea oil production stood at 62 million tons and contributed more than 60% of the total increase in the country’s oil production.

Meanwhile, natural gas output reached 230 billion cubic meters in 2023, increasing for the seventh year in a row. This figure indicated a production rise of 10 billion cubic meters.

These record high figures can mainly be attributed to China’s increasing production in line with its goal of becoming self-sufficient.
