China’s polymer imports down on year in Sept

According to data from Chinese Customs, the country’s total polymer imports retreated by around 2.8% on a yearly basis to reach 1,450,665 tons in September. Imports edged up by 0.7% when compared to the previous month.

The top five polymer exporters to China in September were South Korea (227,083 tons), Saudi Arabia (189,851 tons), Taiwan (172,647 tons), Iran (154,491 tons) and the United Arab Emirates (147,668 tons).

In September, China’s LDPE imports declined 26% when compared to the same month of 2015 to be reported at 148,178 tons while they were up by around 2.2% compared with August. Iran was the top LDPE supplier to China with 28,193 tons, followed by South Korea (20,801 tons).

HDPE imports increased by 10.5% from a year earlier to reach 478,692 tons in September while they were also up by around 0.3% when compared with the previous month. Iran maintained its place at the top with 122,616 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (87,385 tons), the United Arab Emirates (68,119 tons) and South Korea (50,127 tons).

The country’s LLDPE imports decreased around 4.5% on a yearly basis to reach 222,018 tons in September while they were up by around 6.7% when compared to August. Singapore was the top supplier to China with 54,995 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (38,899 tons) and Thailand (27,078 tons).

Imports for homo-PP fell 14% on the year to reach 256,666 tons in September. South Korea remained at the top of the homo-PP import list with 70,387 tons, followed by Saudi Arabia (44,090 tons) and Singapore (33,072 tons). On a monthly basis, China’s homo-PP imports also dropped by around 3.5% in September.

PP copolymer imports rose around 18.3% year over year to reach 127,775 tons in September while surging by around 17.4% from a month earlier. Taiwan was the top exporter to China with 26,893 tons, followed by United Arab Emirates (26,583 tons) and Singapore (26,368 tons).

China’s September PVC imports fell by around 21% when compared to the same month of 2015 to be reported at 44,795 tons. On a monthly basis, imports were down by 5.8%. The top PVC exporter to China in September was the United States (18,034 tons), followed by Taiwan (13,086 tons) and Japan (9,895 tons).

Imports for PS retreated by around 11% on a year over year basis to reach 37,405 tons in September. When compared to August data, they were also down by 7.6%. Taiwan was the top PS exporter to China with 15,042 tons.

For ABS, the country’s September imports posted a yearly increase of 10% while they were slightly down by around 2% from a month earlier. Taiwan was at the top of the ABS import list with 68,525 tons, followed by South Korea (42,573 tons).
