China shuts world’s largest electronics market amid COVID-19 outbreak
Three key buildings in the area, home to thousands of stalls selling computer components, mobile phone parts, microchips, and other components to manufacturers will stay closed until September 2.
All businesses in the affected areas will remain shut under a mandatory four-day lockdown, except for supermarkets, pharmacies and hospitals. Officials announced that cinemas, karaoke bars and parks would also be closed and large public events cancelled until Thursday.
Shenzhen, an international technology hub of nearly 18 million people, reported 35 cases on August 30.
