Consulate approval for trade between Iran and Turkey officially abolished

Industry sources reported that the Iranian government has officially abolished the requirement of consulate approval for imports from Turkey as of October 17, 2017. The implementation was put into effect last year, which was followed by a similar decision of Turkey’s Ministry of Economy and Trade regarding imports from Iran in late July this year.

The news was welcomed by participants of plastics industry as the newly abolished implementation had previously caused complaints about longer bureaucratic process for the trade between the two countries as well as higher costs stemming from document fees.

The Turkish and Iranian high-level committees agreed to abolish the requirement for consulate approval for the invoices after the negotiations took place in the Ministry of Customs and Trade on September 25, 2017.

The implementation of the requirement for consulate approval in Turkey for the invoices of the imports of Iranian goods, which came into force on July 24, 2017, was provisionally suspended on July 29, 2017 due to the complications in the procedure of customs clearance. The implementation re-entered into force on September 21, 2017 and any imports of Iranian materials were subject to the necessary approvals from the consulate. However, this happened to be short-lived as it was abolished permanently on September 25.
