Czech Unipetrol facing extended shutdown at Litvinov

According to market sources, the Czech Republic’s Unipetrol may be unable to restart its petrochemical complex it Litvinov for several months. The company shut the facility and declared a force majeure on output from all of its petrochemical units at its Chempark Zaluzi site in Litvoniv following an explosion and fire stemming from a propylene leakage in mid- August.

The cracker at the site has a production capacity of 544,000 tons/year of ethylene while the other units are able to produce 320,000 tons/year of HDPE and 290,000 tons/year of PP.
