EU to accelerate trade talks with US to avert tariff dispute

According to media sources, the European Union said it would accelerate trade negotiations with the United States to defuse growing tensions and prevent a full-blown tariff conflict, marking a shift toward cooperation just days after President Donald Trump accused the bloc of taking advantage of the US and stalling on trade discussions.

“There’s now a renewed momentum for these talks,” European Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho told reporters in Brussels on Monday. Her comments came one day after Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a phone call with President Trump, where both leaders agreed to speed up negotiations and remain in close contact.

Following the call, Trump said he would delay the imposition of 50% tariffs on EU goods until July 9, extending the deadline by more than a month to allow for further dialogue. “We had a very nice call, and I agreed to move it,” Trump told reporters.
