According to media reports, the European Union has decided to extend the suspension of sanctions against Iran after the parties agreed to prolong nuclear talks by seven months. The EU had settled on November 24 as a deadline for an international deal with Iran. However, Iran and the six major powers - the United States, France, Britain, China, Russia and Germany haven’t reached a deal over the country’s nuclear programme and decided on Monday to extend the talks until June 30, 2015.

The countries aim to ease a wider conflict in the Middle East, to end economic sanctions on Iran and strengthen the ties between the East and West after decades of political tension. The suspensions included a 2012 ban applied on insuring and transporting Iranian crude oil which had caused the country’s oil exports to decrease more than 50%.
