Europe’s commercial vehicle sales keep increasing in March

According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), commercial vehicle sales in the European Union (EU) increased for a third consecutive month in March. New commercial vehicle registrations climbed 20.7% to 223,749 units in March, posting the strongest monthly increase since December 2013.

The latest data showed that sales for new heavy trucks surged 27.9% in March to reach 24,649 units while sales for new trucks rose 21.2% on the year to reach 30,603 units in March. New bus and coach sales also increased 33.1% compared with the same period of 2014.

Among the largest European markets, Spain (+67.6%), the UK (+25.6%), Germany (+13.1%), France (+11.1%) and Italy (+10.2%) all posted double‐digit growth in March.

In the first quarter of this year, meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales in the EU grew 13.3% to 502,210 units. In this period, sales in Spain (+42.3%), the UK (+24.2%), Germany (+7.1%) and Italy (+7.0%) expanded, but France posted a decline of 0.5% for the first three months ending in March.
