Eurozone GDP growth flat in Q1 on quarter

According to data released by Eurostat, economic growth in the eurozone was stable at 0.5% in the first quarter of 2017 on a quarterly basis and matched the economists’ estimates. Compared with the same period of 2016, the region’s gross domestic product (GDP) climbed by 1.7% after a rise of 1.8% in Q4 of 2016. The year-on-year rise in the region’s GDP was also in line with the estimates.

Among member states, GDP gained speed in Spain at 0.8% in Q1 from 0.7% from the previous quarter while the growth in France slowed to 0.3% from 0.5% from Q4 of 2016. Austria’s economy also grew slightly slower by 0.5% in Q1 from 0.6% a quarter ago.
