According to data released by Eurostat, retail sales in the eurozone posted the weakest growth seen in a year in November while also falling below economists’ expectations. The regions’ retail sales increased 1.4% in November compared with the same month of 2014 while economists had expected a gain of 2%. On a monthly basis, however, growth in retail sales edged down 0.3% after posting a revised decline of 0.2% in October.

Sales for non-food products and automotive fuel climbed 1.8% from a year earlier while sales for food, drinks and tobacco rose 0.8% compared with the same month of last year.

Among the member states, the highest yearly increases in total retail trade were observed in Romania (+15.0%), Poland (+5.9%) and the United Kingdom (+5.4%), while the highest decreases seen in Belgium (-2.5%) and Latvia (-0.7%).
