Eurozone construction declines in August

According to the data released by Eurostat, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector in the Eurozone decreased by 0.2% in August month-on-month and by 0.4% on a yearly basis.
According to the data, the monthly decrease in August was mainly due to the fall in building by 0.2% and in civil engineering by 0.1%. The data also revealed that Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia recorded the largest decreases by 9.7%, 3.6% and 1.4% respectively in the production in construction while Hungary, Italy and Bulgaria posted the largest increases respectively by 9.8%, 1.8% and 0.9% on a monthly basis.
The data shows that the rise in construction in the area on a yearly basis in August was mainly driven by an increase of 1.7% in building construction and of 0.6% in civil engineering. Among Member States, Hungary, Poland and Sweden posted the largest increases in production in construction on a yearly basis by 36.8%, 23.2% and 14.7% respectively while Italy (1.1%), Romania (0.6%) and Belgium (0.4%) recorded the largest decreases on year.
