According to the data from Eurostat, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector in the eurozone fell by 0.7% in May month-on-month while it increased by 2.6% on a yearly basis.

According to the data, the monthly increase in May 2017 was mainly due to the falls in civil engineering by 0.9% and in building construction by 0.6%. The data also shows that Slovenia, Sweden and Slovakia recorded the largest decreases by 10.6%, 7.1% and 4.9% respectively in the production in construction while Hungary, Bulgaria and Italy posted the largest increases respectively by 7.6%, 3.6% and 2.7% on a monthly basis.

The data reveals that the rise in construction in the eurozone on a yearly basis in May 2017 was mainly driven by an increase of 2.8% in civil engineering and of 2.5% in building construction. Among the member states, Hungary and Bulgaria posted the largest increases in production in construction on a yearly basis by 35.3% and 11.9% respectively while Romania (16.7%), Spain (5.6%) and Slovakia (2.1%) recorded the largest decreases on year.
