According to data released by the European Union’s statistics office Eurostat, retail sales in the Eurozone rose in February both on a monthly and yearly basis.

The data from Eurostat shows that retail sales increased by 0.3% on a monthly basis in February following a 0.1% decrease in January. This increase was reportedly driven by the rise in non-food products by 0.4% and in food, drinks and tobacco by 0.2%.

Among member states, the largest contribution to the monthly increase in retail sales came from Hungary (1.8%), Estonia (1.6%) and the Luxembourg (1.5%) while the largest decreases were recorded in Portugal (2.3%), Slovenia and the UK (both 2.2%) and Finland (2.1%).

The data also showed that Eurozone retail sales increased by 1.2 in February on an annual basis by %2.3 on the back of the rises in the sales of non-food products by 3.1%, in food, drinks and tobacco by 1.6%.

Among member states, the largest contribution to the annual increase in retail sales came from Slovenia (10.4%), Romania (9.1%), and Luxembourg (7.8%).
