ExxonMobil restarts, DuPont’s Orange shuts olefin complex

According to market sources, ExxonMobil resumed production at its olefin complex in Baytown, Texas last weekend, after a maintenance work it underwent due to a fire which broke out on January 20 because of a mechanical failure.
The company’s complex in Baytown, Texas, which is the largest oil refinery and petrochemical facility in the US, has a production capacity of 1.18 million tons/year of ethylene and 800,000 tons/year of propylene. It can also process 584,000 barrels/day of crude oil.
Meanwhile, DuPont’s olefins unit in Orange, Texas, was taken offline last week due to an electrical outage at the site.
All units are preparing to start up soon, sources said.
The Orange olefins unit has a production capacity of 750,000 tons/year and constitutes 2.32% of all US ethylene capacity.
