U.S. energy company ExxonMobil plans to invest 10 billion yuan (approximately $1.4 billion) in its Huizhou ethylene project in Guangdong Province, China in 2024, media sources reported. The project is known as one of China’s major foreign investment projects.

The project will be completed in two stages, and its initial phase is scheduled to become operational by the end of 2024 following a testing period.

Jean-Marc Taton, chairman of ExxonMobil China, stated that the company has already committed over 30 billion yuan ($4.1 billion) to the first phase of the project.

The first phase includes a steam cracker and facilities for producing high-performance polyethylene and polypropylene.
