Fall in Indonesia's exports, imports defies expectations in June

According to media reports, data released by Central Statistical Agency showed that Indonesia’s exports and imports fell in June. Accordingly, the country’s exports decreased by 11.82% year-on year in June, defying the economists’ expectations of an increase of 7.28%. The country’s exports were also down by 18.82% month-on-month.

Meanwhile, imports also decreased by 17.21% on a yearly basis in June, contrary to the expectations which called for an increase of 9.25%. On a monthly basis, imports were also down by around 27.26% in June.

The country’s trade surplus rose to $1.63 billion in June from $1.11 billion in June 2016.
