Fire erupts at Map Ta Phut Terminal in Thailand, SCG declares FM on cracker production
One person died and hundreds were evacuated at the time of writing.
Following the fire, SCG Chemicals Plc (SCGC) shut operations of plants in the area due to severe damage therefore, the company declared force majeure on cracker productions. The company operates two crackers in the area, namely the Rayong Olefins (ROC) cracker and Map Ta Phut Olefins (MOC) cracker.
According to ChemOrbis Production News Pro, ROC cracker has a production capacity of 900,000 tons/year of ethylene and 450,000 tons/year of propylene. MOC cracker’s total capacity is at 1.2 million tons/year for ethylene and 850,000 tons/year for propylene.
The two crackers also feed downstream plants, namely Siam Polyethylene, Thai Plastics and Chemicals (PVC producer), Thai Polyethylene, Thai Polypropylene and HMC Polymers.
These producers are yet to comment about their production status following the force majeure in their feedstock supplies.
