According to media reports, flooding that is occurring in Thailand’s south and affecting around 1.6 million people along with damaging roads, tourism, agriculture and households; also influenced the major rubber producing region of the country.

Southern Thailand is one of the major rubber producers in the world and recent weather conditions hit the production as well. According to the national rubber authority; output in 2016-2017 will be around 10% lower due to the floods.

In Thailand, the usual rainy season is in the June-November period; however, unseasonable rains seen since early January this year are still effective and expected to last for a while.

Meanwhile, PVC players in Thailand expressed that the flood won’t be influential on the PVC market.

A Thai converter stated that the flood won’t have grand impacts on the PVC market because it is affecting the southern part of the country.

An agent of a Thai PVC producer in Malaysia said, “We heard that a local producer is having transportation issues due to flooding in the southern part of Thailand. Still, we don’t expect to see much impact on PVC.”
