According to a letter sent by Formosa Plastics to its customers, the company declared force majeure on its PVC output at its Point Comfort complex in Texas as of July 26. The force majeure declaration covers the production of Formolon 608, 614, 616K, 622R and 622S PVC resins. The company blamed its reduced PVC production following a technical issue at its VCM unit encountered on July 8. The 750,000 tons/year VCM unit is also running at reduced rates currently.

The force majeure on PVC supplies is expected to last for at least several weeks, according to the letter, although the company said that they are diligently working to return to full capacity as soon as possible.

Formosa is able to produce around 798,000 tons/year of PVC at Point Comfort, TX.
