According to data compiled by France’s official statistics office, Insee, industrial production in the country increased by a larger amount than expected in August. France’s factory output rose 1.6% in August from a month earlier, although economists’ expectations called for a gain of 0.5% in a survey by Wall Street Journal. However, Insee revised down July’s industrial production data to a decrease of 1.1% from an earlier drop of 0.8%.

The increase was attributed to higher production in the automobile sector which rose 6.5% in August. The data also showed that the country’s manufacturing output climbed 2.2% compared with the previous month.

The French government expects the economy to grow by 1% in 2015.
