According to data released by France’s statistical office Insee, the country’s industrial production rose 1.3% on the month in January, posting the fastest rate of growth since December 2011. The January figure also beat economists’ expectations, which called for a gain of 0.8%. In December, France’s industrial output had declined by 0.6%.

The data revealed that manufacturing output edged up 0.8% on the month while output of mining and quarrying and energy climbed 4.9% in January following a decrease of 4.4% in December. Construction output, meanwhile, rose 7.3% on the month after a decrease of 3.1% in December.
