France’s industrial production unexpectedly falls in July

According to media reports, data from France’s statistical office Insee showed that the country’s industrial production unexpectedly declined by 0.6% on a monthly basis in July while economists’ expectations were calling for a 0.2% rise. Industrial production was influenced by the steep decline in manufacturing output in the same month.

The country’s manufacturing output is down by 0.3% in July after posting declines for the three consecutive months. Manufacturing of machinery fell by 3.3% in July while construction output surged by 4.8%.

On an annual basis, France’s industrial production edged down by 0.2% in July.
