According to data released by Germany’s Economy Ministry, the country’s factory orders rose 1.9% after adjusting for seasonal swings and inflation in March compared with a revised fall of 0.8% in the previous month. Bloomberg economists’ estimates called for an increase of 0.6%. On a yearly basis, Germany’s factory orders climbed 1.7% in March.

Strong global trade helped offset sluggish domestic demand. The Economy Ministry reported that export orders rose 4.3% in March owing to a 6.2% surge in orders from the outside of the euro area. Orders for investment goods also rose 4% while orders for consumer goods gained 1.6%. Domestic orders, however, fell 1.2 % in March.
