According to data released by Germany’s Economy Ministry, the country’s industrial production, adjusted for seasonal swings and calendar effects, decreased by 1.3% on a month over month basis in May. Analysts’ initial expectations were calling for a minimal decrease of 0.1%.

A sharp decline of 3.9% in capital goods production was cited as the main reason behind the weaker May data.

Meanwhile, the country’s factory orders were unchanged on a monthly basis in May amidst weak domestic demand. On a yearly basis, orders fell by 2%.
