According to data released by Germany’s statistics office Destatis, the country’s retail sales declined 0.1% in adjusted terms in June from an increase of 0.7% in May. The Wall Street Journal economists’ expectations had called for a gain of 0.5% in June. On a yearly basis, however, the country’s retail sales posted a solid growth of 2.7% in real terms.

Data showed that retail sales for food, beverages and tobacco rose 3.2% on the year while non-food sales also increased 2.1% in June from a year earlier.

In the first half of the year, meanwhile, retail sales grew by 2.3% in real terms.
