Global producers form alliance to end plastic waste

According to a press release published on January 16, more than 30 global plastics and consumer goods companies launched a new organization to advance solutions to eliminate plastic waste.

The new not-for-profit organization, named Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW), has committed over $1 billion with a goal of investing $1.5 billion over the next five years to help end plastic waste.

The Alliance stated in the press release that it will make additional investments in infrastructure development to collect and manage waste and increase recycling in large urban areas where infrastructure is lacking. The Alliance is also aiming to collaborate with other programs, including Project STOP.

The founding members of the Alliance are as follows: BASF, Berry Global, Braskem, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC, Clariant, Covestro, Dow, DSM, ExxonMobil, Formosa Plastics Corporation USA, Henkel, LyondellBasell, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings, Mitsui Chemicals, NOVA Chemicals, OxyChem, PolyOne, Procter & Gamble, Reliance Industries, SABIC, Sasol, SUEZ, Shell, SCG Chemicals, Sumitomo Chemical, Total, Veolia, and Versalis (Eni).
